Favorite Liquid Eyeliners

I just finished the last day of classes for the HARDEST and most challenging semester EVER. Phew, now finals...

Well in lieu of this, I am posting something beauty related! I realized lately that my makeup routine will always include these two things: liquid liner and mascara. If worse comes to worse, mascara always wins. However I thought I would share with you my favorite liquid liners of all time! I had a few friends ask me what brands I use and what I recommend the most, so I figure why not blog about it right? If you're looking into venturing out in liquid liner or already a liquid liner lover like me, this post is definitely for you!! Out of a variety of brands, posted are my favorites. Also, I wanted to test out which one is the ultimate winner.

Here are the contenders:
Left to right: Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner, Lancome Artliner, Makeup Forever Aqua Liner, ELF Liquid Eyeliner (the cap is broken!!!)

Here are the swatches:
From Left to Right: ELF, Makeup Forever, Lancome Artliner, Eyeko. The lines don't look clean and perfect because I tested various pressures as I swiped and see how the pigmentation and the thickness would look. You can see that some liners have more varying pigmentation than others.
Another picture with slightly different lighting.
1. Elf Liquid Liner in Black
Price: $3
Applicator: short with felt tip applicator
Lasting Performance: Flakes after 6 hours!
Overall: The color comes out pretty dark. If pigmentation is what you want, for the price this liquid liner is worth your money. The problem I have with this is that is flakes fast. So longevity is not its strong suit. If you're like me and don't like having to reply makeup at all, this liner isn't for you. But if you look closely at the swatches you can see that it comes out just as dark in comparison to the more expensive brands. What I like about this liner is that you don't have to shake it to get more pigment, it has a quill pen type of packaging thing going on. Another downfall to this liner is it's applicator. It's thin, and you either have to really take your time to do your liner or be a pro with a steady hand in order to pull of a clean look. Luckily, you can do various line sizes with this liner. Using more pressure when applying does not make a difference in the pigmentation, but it does dictate the size of your line. But golly, for the price, this eyeliner is a definite win! This sets (meaning you can try rubbing it slightly and it wont come off, "dried") in about 1 minute.

2. Makeup Forever Aqua Liner in 13 (black)
Price: $23
Applicator: long with short tip
Lasting Performance: all day!!
Overall: I really enjoy this liner. It literally lasts all day. There has been more than one occasion where I didn't take my makeup off (not because I'm lazy, I fell asleep studying!!) and the line I put on the day before looked completely intact (albiet I do put UD primer potion on my lids, but that goes for every makeup look I do). This stays on FOREVER (ha, just like the brand). This isn't the easiest to apply, but definitely easier than the Lancome Artliner and the ELF Liquid Liner. It is also the darkest black of them all (look closely if you can't tell...). Variance in your use of pressure when applying this influences the pigmentation and the thickness of the line. If you want a thin but dark line you'd have to go over the line with a soft hand a few times. Like most liquid liners, you have to shake this rather well to get good pigmentation. This set in about 20 seconds. I think the price is fair for this liner, MUFE is considered high end.

3. Lancome Artliner in Noir
Price: $30
Applicator: long with long tip (not the best for applying...)
Lasting Performance: 8-10 hours (but will flake by 6)
OVerall: Out of the four I chose to review this is by far the biggest disappointment  For $30 dollars, you are not getting your money's worth. In the swatches it is by far the least pigmented and hardest to apply because the pen tip is long and flexible. You'd need to be a pro at lining to love this, definitely not good for beginners.  Like most liquid liners, you have to shake this rather well to get good pigmentation. However, if you like your eyeliners to not be so dark this is the better option. Also it's hard to do varying line thickness with the applicator. The application and the price is what really gets to me about this liner. It sets in about 30 seconds.

4. Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner in Black
Price: $15
Applicator: literally like a felt tip pen
Lasting Performance: all day!!
Overall: I love this eyeliner! As you can see from the swatch it has the most variation in line thickness with one swipe. It lasts all day and the pigmentation is up to par with the ELF and MUFE brands. Just like the MUFE Aqua Liner, the variance in your use of pressure when applying this influences the pigmentation and the thickness of the line. It does have the glossiest finish of them all. I absolutely LOVE how I don't have to shake this eyeliner to get color out. It literally reminds me of my black felt tip pens that I right with. For the way this liner performs better than the higher end liners, and it's only $15. Eyeko is a UK based brand, sold exclusively here at Sephora. The only problem I have with this one is that it feathered more than any of the liners, but thankfully it really isn't so noticeable.

The winner?

EYEKO!! Why? As I said earlier, it performs up to par with pigmentation with high end brands, is long lasting, and does not have to be shaken. It is also very beginner friendly to new liquid liner users. And for $15, it's just a bargain, it's a steal!

I highly recommend all of these products. Again, just like the human body, everyone's preferences are different. There's never one best liner, as everyone has their own taste and preferences! I hope this post was helpful and hope to blog soon! Now... back to reading about differential diagnosis for elbow/wrist/hand examinations. :p

Penny and me pic for the day! Btw I'm wearing the eyeko today! You can't really tell though in this picture.
Love,

Jacquis
