The Last Frontier!

Seward, AK
Ah... my last summer vacation.. EVER! And it wouldn't be complete without travelling, of course! In an effort to get away from the heat, my family decided to go to Alaska. I came out of Alaska wanting to never live again in Texas. I say this with all bias because I didn't experience the winter, but my grandma mentioned that it's really not all that bad in the winter, you're just limited in places to go outside of Anchorage. We did go at a time where tourism is at its boom every year. I swear half of the boarders on our plane from Houston to Anchorage had brought their fishing rods with them. Salmon is running rampant in Alaska's rivers to spawn, not to mention the weather is at it's best at the moment there - great for hiking and sight seeing. I absolutely loved it! And I'm definitely coming back because there was so much we didn't get to see. I love nature and checking out local wildlife (it seems that this is what we do in almost every vacation), so I obviously went gaga when I saw so many different animals and wildlife.

There were a few things I learned when I went there:

1. At this time of the year it never becomes fully dark! I did not see complete darkness AT ALL! You can just imagine my light sensitive circadian rhythm going crazy. And even though I'm back, I'm still confused with my sleeping pattern. With the sun being out for so long, the days were super long.

2. Apparently 68 degrees Fahrenheit is really hot. )!&#$#???? And that I looked ridiculous wearing so many layers lol.

3. Alaska has so many heritage sites, and also very mixed in culture. There are a lot of Filipinos there, Samoans, other Asian cultures, and the natives!

4. Cautionary tale: be careful when driving in highways because ducks and moose often cross. Bears run amok, and rocks may often fall off cliffs into the road. BUT you can see so many cool wildlife activity - killer whales, porpoises, whales, sea otters, elk, moose, bears, wolves, etc!

5. Alaskan King Crab is soooooo expensive... in Alaska. My dad could get the same amount of king crab for half the price in Texas.

6. Everybody eats salmon. Breakfast, lunch, dinner!! Halibut too!

7. It's more expensive to go there than you would think. The airfare cost quite a lot, and we didn't lodge with my grandma so we went to a pretty mediocre hotel but with a high end price tag! Food was also quite expensive when you dined out. Not to mention we also rented a car, bought stuff, etc. Oh, and one of the day wildlife cruises cost us $900 for 5 people!! But hey you can't see glaciers or these wildlife stuff for free and without equipment right?

8. It's peaceful and so calming. I'm not quite sure about living there, but I would honestly visit often!

Here are an assortment of pictures, and these do not do Alaska justice. I saw so many cool things like wolves and sceneries that I didn't get a hold of. There are a whole lot more from my parent's cameras, but I just wanted to give you a glimpse. I didn't bring my own camera because I know my parents were going to whip theirs out:
