I actually really love the packaging of this product! Not bulky and easy to travel with.
I bought the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation from the insistence of a sales lady at Sephora. My skin has turned more oily the past few weeks, even with the winter weather (semi-winter, since technically an 80 degree Christmas vacation average does not count). Still, even with the colder temperatures, one would assume that your skin would become less oily. She tried out the Silk Creme on me and it was fabulous. The finish was gorgeous. The only thing I didn't pay attention to was that she only applied it to the side tempero-mandibular area (basically near your jaw bone), which is one of the parts of my face that doesn't have any issues, so I had no idea how much coverage it could give.
I got the Sand Beige color.
I tried it on the next day using a foundation brush and it looked beautiful, but less "second skin" like. I found soon enough that in order to get a good "second skin" or barely there finish, you have to really buff it. I recommend using a dense brush or a very dense kabuki brush to get the most flawless finish. For this foundation though, if need be, hands can work or a beauty blender as well. I don't recommend a foundation brush (the flat thin ones). Even my nicest of all foundation brushes gave a less stellar finish than the use of my hands.
Coverage wise it's medium at best, which was ok, but I definitely needed to top of with a full coverage concealer for my very dark hyper pigmentation spots. It gives off a matte finish, and when I set it with powder and spray it stayed on all day. Not quite sure how it will work by itself. The lady at Sephora also gave me a sample of the Laura Mercier primer. I think this foundation works even better with it. I tried one day with and one day without the primer and I think the primer makes a difference.
It gives off medium coverage, definitely buildable, but I found that with even more product it 's more prone to creasing.
My only complaint is that the Sand Beige color is just a tad bit lighter and two yellow for me, so I use a neutral powder that's a little lighter than my skin tone to set it, and it looks perfect. It didn't give me any issues with oxidizing throughout the day, which is good. Overall, I give this item a B+. Biggest reason for this grade is because I prefer to have a daily foundation that I don't need a primer or an additional setting spray to get the best stay and the best finish. Foundation + powder, is as much as I'd like to do when I'm on the go or in a hurry (like getting ready for school every morning...). This foundation is also really prone to creasing within an hour on your fine lines. It's most suitable for people who have redness, dull skin, or those with almost close to flawless skin. This product retailed for $42 dollars.
Hope this helps!
Love,
Jacquis
